(mé-di-kal, ka-l') adj.
   Qui appartient à la médecine. Livres médicaux. Le langage médical.
   Propre à guérir. Les propriétés médicales d'une plante.
   Matière médicale, ensemble des corps bruts et organisés qui fournissent les médicaments, et partie de la thérapeutique qui étudie ces corps.
   MÉDICAL, MÉDICINAL. Le mot médical s'applique aux objets généraux de la science : on dit les sciences médicales (celles qui sont nécessaires à l'exercice de la médecine), une société médicale. Médicinale signifie : qui a des propriétés médicamenteuses. Quelquefois médical prend le sens de médicinal, mais médicinal ne prend pas celui de médical.
   XVIe s.

   Dérivé du lat. medicus (voy. médecin).
